Public Space Lighting for Community Safety - One Day Workshop

Increasingly community safety and crime prevention professionals at local government level are requires to provide specialist advice to development compliance officers and integrated planning personnel regarding designs and planning. As lighting of public facilities, pedestrian access and residential roadways is key to community safety and crime prevention, having an understanding of regulatory environment and good practice in lighting application will ensure better advice is delivered.

Description

 Increasingly community safety and crime prevention professionals at local government level are required to provide specialist advice to development compliance officers and integrated planning personnel regarding designs and planning. As lighting of public facilities, pedestrian access and residential roadways is key to community safety and crime prevention, having an understanding of regulatory environment and good practice in lighting application will ensure better advice is delivered.

This workshop based on the new Australian Standard 1158 series: Lighting for Roads and Public Spaces, together with the latest relevant Austroads Guides encompassing traffic engineering practices and roadway lighting will provide an awareness of design principles involved in achieving appropriate lighting outcomes with safety and security foremost.

Delegates will be provided with pre-reading so they can refresh/become familiar with lighting terminology & terms, concepts and relationships.  Extensive Course Notes will be provided at the course covering sustainability, security and road safety issues.

This workshop provides instruction on the basic principles and their application and is supported by a lighting installations evening coach tour that compliments understanding and learning.

  • Basic Photometry (Concepts & Terms)
  • Basic Rules for Lighting Design – safety & security issues.
  • Roads - intersections and bends
  • Public spaces – car parks, park pathways, walkways, etc.
  • Selecting energy efficient lighting hardware.
  • Compliance & Assessment Requirements and Responsible Authority
  • Group Dinner & Tour re inspections and appraisal of pubic lighting installations.
