Pavement Defects & Maintenance Options Workshop

Level: Intermediate – Advanced. This 1.5 day short course, focusing on recognising and understanding the various defects that arise over time with bituminous surfacing. Exploring and assessing the maintenance options is the primary focus however rehabilitation is briefly covered to provide a complete picture, thus the course is ideal for senior supervisors and works managers, engineers and engineering technologists and project managers, working for local government, or state/federal agencies, consultants and contractors.

Description

Overview:

This Course is primarily concerned with providing delegates with the knowledge, and practical understanding to recognise pavement defects and their potential causes, and to evaluation the various maintenance options, and their most beneficial use. The importance, and types of maintenance, pavement distress modes and evaluation techniques are reviewed and preventative and periodic maintenance options will be fully explored and detailed.

Advice is given for the investigation of sealed road pavements, and for the assessment and selection of treatments specifically for roads carrying normal loadings with a specific focus on flexible pavements.

Case studies are used throughout to facilitate practical learning.

Outcome:

After completing this course delegates will be able to recognise and contribute to a detailed evaluation of appropriate maintenance options, and the identification of their most beneficial use/selection, for decision making in selecting the appropriate option/choice in varied circumstances.

 Topics Covered:

  • Pavement Maintenance
    • types, importance, objectives, pavement distress and modes & mechanisms
  • Pavement Evaluation Techniques, Purpose and Methods
